The Democracy Project (e pluribus unum)*

Lead On is committed to helping strengthen groups and communities by cultivating citizen-leadership. Our Democracy Project encourages leadership skills through civic understanding. We help people of all ages develop the leadership skills to help them contribute meaningfully to making a better world, starting with action in their own community.

We offer a range of enrichment opportunities designed to engage students in the principles of civic leadership:

  1. Understanding Civic Impact: Through classic texts and case studies, students explore the importance of their role as citizens in a democratic society, learning how to contribute to their community and beyond.
  2. Problem-Solving Leadership: Through practical resources and activities, students will learn how good leadership involves courage, compassion, collaboration, and relentless curiosity in seeking solutions to complex challenges.
  3. Debate and Discussion: In-person debates and structured discussions will encourage students to think critically about democracy, problem-solving, and their personal role in shaping society.
  4. Community Engagement Projects: Students participate in grass-roots projects, gaining hands-on experience in civic leadership.
  5. Educational Resources: Teachers and administrators can access downloadable materials, including lesson plans, activities, and case studies, to integrate civic leadership into their curriculum.

In a democracy, everybody owns a piece of leadership. Start growing yours today!

* “Out of many, one”: the original motto of the United States, dating back to 1776. The Latin phrase’s 13 letters were a nod to the 13 states announcing their independence — and union. Unity from diversity: the American ideal, and a worthy aspiration for leaders today, for all kinds of groups and organizations.
